Rucksack is very lucky to have a brilliant gearstore that means we can lend out gear to anyone who doesn't have their own. With gear like rucksacks, waterproofs, camping stoves, climbing gear, boots, and much more... we probably have what you're looking for. To find out how gear store works, have a look below ⬇️
This could be you ^
Our gear store is open before our trips every Thursday at 6pm - there is info on our socials and WhatsApp on how to find it.
Members can borrow as much gear as they need, but since our gear is limited we do ask that you return gear as soon as you no longer need it.
There is a £30 deposit for taking gear out. £20 of this is a flat deposit, usually paid at the start of the semester, and refunded at the end of the year, or whenever you no longer need to take gear out. The other £10 is an extra payment, that could be retained as a late fee for failing to return gear, but otherwise will be refunded alongside your £20.

When you come to the gear store, we will take note of everything you have taken out, alongside your name and contact info, and will let you know when you need to return it by (usually a week). If you don't return it on time it, you will not get £10 of your deposit back, and will need to pay another £10 before you can take gear out again.
If you wish to take gear out for more than a week, or can no longer make it to the gear store to return it when originally agreed, this is completely fine - you just need to let us know. We will only keep your £10 extra deposit if you keep gear without telling us, as this means other people who need the gear can't use it.
Failure to return gear for an extended period of time, despite committee contacting you to return it, will be considered theft - and can be escalated to the University and the Police.
If you're unsure what to bring to a hike, then you can have a look at our kit lists here.
If you still aren't sure, then don't worry, as our experienced committee members will be there to keep you right and answer your questions!
